I would like to echo Dr. Bork’s sentiments and condolences for Rudi Kroeker and provide my fond memory … I came to #Brock in 2012 as the Manager of its new #BioLinc Business Incubator and met Rudi not only in his position at #Brock but also as the Head of #Whiting Equipment. As engineers we “spoke the same language so as we built #BioLinc, Rudi provided his positive guidance and we arranged a unique Agreement between #Whiting and #BioLinc. Specifically, since Brock did not offer #engineering at that time, Rudi provided his Process Engineering Group as engineering mentors to the tech-based entrepreneurs developing their products and services at #BioLinc; and, reciprocally, #BioLinc provided #Whiting with one of its Wet Labs for research and demonstration projects for #Whiting, particularly in crystallization (Swenson) related technology. Thank you, Rudi, for helping to bring #engineering and #entrepreneurship together at #Brock.

Take a second to think about everything you do in the course of a week…So many of us in life are busy all the time…busting our humps at work, rushing back for family activities while trying to make time for our own hobbies. Ask yourself “why?” Often the “who we are” gets lost in the “what we do.” What legacy do you want to leave behind when it is all said and done? This guide is a great resource so that your memorial, whatever and whenever that may be, celebrates who you are!

THE AMERICAN CALENDAR: The Meaning of Memorial Day - https://lnkd.in/gEsrcxBd || PDF: https://lnkd.in/g8dxBqV5One among our holidays alone bears the name and the specific call to remembrance:Memorial Day. Celebrated on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer. Families fire up the grill or flock to the lake house, while those who remain in town are able to take advantage of the weekend’s sales. But Memorial Day is also the day we set aside to honor those who died in service to their country. It is more than a day of remembrance, for it is also a day for “us the living” to re-dedicate ourselves to civic renewal and to perpetuate our form of government.Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a post-Civil War holiday. It wasfirst institutedby the Grand Army of the Republic, on May 30, 1868, “for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, hamlet, and churchyard in the land.”If the Fourth of July renews the memory of the birth of the nation, Decoration Day renews the memory of those who gave their lives that that nation might live. Or again, in Lincoln’s words, “That this nation shall have a new birth of freedom.”After World War I, Memorial Day was expanded to commemorate the lives of all those who have died in service to our country. In the past decade, hundreds have been added to the roster of those whose lives and service we are summoned today to remember. But how should we the living best honor these lives and those memories? In what manner and spirit should we remember? Why Memorial Day today? Our ebook, “The Meaning of Memorial Day,” explores these questions with selections from American authors and statesmen, including Herman Melville, Ernie Pyle, Louisa May Alcott, Frederick Douglass, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Each selection includes a brief introduction by the editors with guiding questions for discussion.

Commemorating Memorial Day at home is a meaningful way to honor the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. Here aresome thoughtful waysyou can observe this important day:1. Moment of Silence: Set aside a specific time during the day for a moment of silence. Reflect on the lives lost in service to our country and express gratitude.2. Display the Flag: Fly the American flag at half-mast in your yard or display it prominently in your home. The half-mast position symbolizes respect for those who have passed away.3. Write Letters or Cards: Write heartfelt letters or cards to active-duty military personnel, veterans, or their families. Express your appreciation and support.4. Create a Memorial Space: Dedicate a small area in your home or garden as a memorial space. Arrange flowers, candles, or other symbolic items to honor fallen soldiers.5. Watch Documentaries or Films: Watch documentaries or films related to military history, especially those that highlight the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. Some recommendations include “Saving Private Ryan,” “Band of Brothers,” or “The Pacific.”6. Read Military Poetry or Literature: Explore military-themed poetry, books, or articles. You can find powerful poems like “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae or read about the experiences of veterans.7. Cook a Patriotic Meal: Prepare a meal with red, white, and blue elements. For example, make a berry-filled dessert with whipped cream (representing the flag’s colors) or cook a traditional American dish.Virtual Gatherings: Host a virtual gathering with family and friends. Share stories, memories, and discuss the significance of Memorial Day.8. Visit Virtual Memorials: Explore online memorials and virtual tours of military cemeteries. The Normandy American Cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery, and others offer virtual experiences.9. Educate Children: Teach children about the importance of Memorial Day. Explain its significance and encourage them to create drawings or crafts to honor fallen soldiers.Remember, the essence of Memorial Day lies in remembrance, gratitude, and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.CyberSix wishes you all a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.
